-The group formed and met with the course programme leader to discuss the group project and we came up with our proposal plan idea based on the concept of narcissistic traits expressed on social media.
-Decided to use the medium of a magazine to communicate ideas through.
-Assigned roles and split our magazine ideas into different areas.
-Discussed concepts we aim to use in the project.
-Decided on our subject topic of appearance and identity on social media.
-Came up with what we each want to find out and analyse in relation to the topic.
-Researched sources, books, and online articles relevant to the subject topic of social media identity.
-Discussed what we are each individually interested in and what angles and approaches we can take.
-Discussed issues within the media regarding beauty and body image, as well as social media and how it affects our lives in modern society.
-Discussed how to produce a successful magazine and viewed some examples.
-Researched the difference in content between web and print versions of magazines.
-Discussed page numbers, content to be created, interviews, quotes, ethics, how to research for the subject area and methods to use.
-Discussed article ideas relevant to focusing on aspects of appearances and narcissism such as finding out why people are narcissistic and sourcing experts for first hand advice or information.
-Organized how much time we will need for the project and how to manage our time effectively.

-We each contributed to writing the proposal form based on our subject enquiry of social media and how it affects people’s self-esteem to communicate through the medium of a magazine ready for submission.
-We checked, edited and proofread the proposal and made sure it met the word count and we were all clear with our idea and direction of the project.
28/10/16: (Proposal Process)
-We successfully brought the proposal to the supervision stage.
-We received an email being assigned to our supervisor, Miriam.
16/11/16: (Proposal Process)
-We made the minor appropriate changes to amend our proposal.
-Our proposal was resubmitted.
26/11/16: (Proposal Process)
-We received proposal feedback that it was much sharper.
-Our proposal was accepted the second-time round.
5/12/16: (Group Meeting)
-We got into a group with our fellow classmates who were doing projects around the similar topic of social media.
-Created a visual museum of ideas to get into a different space and help the development of our project.
-We used spatial practices to help us come up with social media concepts.
-We shared and presented our finished idea to the class.
-Visited the room where we are going to be doing our presentations and thought about what visual methods and techniques we could use to get our idea across.

-Visited Magma to purchase some magazines for inspiration; Magnify and Lyra magazine.
-Looked through closely for ideas regarding style and page ideas and discussed what we like and dislike.
3/02/17: (Group Meeting)
-We created our survey questions using Google surveys with specific questions based on social media to use as a base for articles and later distributed them on online networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
-Discussed article topics and questions to ask interviewees.
-Drew out our first flat plan on paper including cover page for ‘Narcissist’ magazine.
-Flat plan included our magazine topics such as feminism, social media, self-esteem, comparison.
-Decided on a magazine target audience; 17 to 25-year-old women.
6/02/17: (Group Meeting)
–We had a meeting with our exhibiting group for the group ‘crits’ to prepare for our presentation.
-Everyone in the group communicated their project theme which was social media related and we discussed how our project linked to the others.
-We looked at images and words to inspire what we could present for our presentation.
-We all agreed on the idea to use words and quotes to link our projects together and present.
13/02/17: (Group Presentation)
-Set up our presentation and practiced several times.
-Presented our group presentation to the class to communicate our ideas.
-Discussed our project and the relation of our exhibitable display to the other projects of the people in our group.
-Had the opportunity to express our work using spatial practices, listen to class feedback about our project and then answer questions.
-Feedback included that our presentation and project message about social media causing low self-esteem was very clear and easy to understand as well as a relatable topic.
-Other feedback included people saying that they had experienced negative feelings due to social media such as Facebook and Instagram.

-Finalized our manifesto and what we aim to communicate to our target audience.
-Researched editor’s letters and wrote our letter from the editor.
-We developed our flat plan using the computer and planned our magazine layout, content and order of pages.
-Wrote up articles and added in quotes from primary sources so far.
-Attended exhibition of work for inspiration for the final year show.
10/03/17: (Group Meeting)
-We put together magazine pages using InDesign, we chose the quotes and explored typefaces.
-We put together our editor’s letter, articles, and quotes using the agreed font style and printed off the pages.
12/03/17: (Group Meeting)
-Received consent from two article interviewees to use photos of them in the magazine via email.
-Arranged a photography studio session via email with Robbie Munn to take pictures to feature in our magazine.
13/03/17: (Supervision Session Preparation)
-We handed in our printed work and photographs of our practical project work we had created so far to receive feedback in the next supervision meeting.
-The work included our articles, images, quote pages, and editor’s letter.
20/03/17: (Group Meeting)
-We had booked in advance to use to the photography studio to take photographs using a model for a picture in the magazine and photo for a social media related article.
-The first picture we directed included using a projector with words such as “not enough likes” and “not pretty enough” and the second shot was an image of a phone in a hand to feature within an article.
-We also took a group picture for the editor’s letter page using the professional camera.
24/03/17: (Group Meeting)
-Visited the printers to get a requirements page.
-The group had a session together using Lynda.com for an in-depth course tutorial of InDesign to begin putting the magazine together using our flat-plan.
-Learnt about spacing between paragraphs, grids, top margins, layout, master pages, thumbnails, block out pages with content and picture frames.
-Aligning text and text frames, layers, pictures, spacing, grid, rhythm, paragraph rules, magazine design.
-Researched and explored fonts in capital letters, tried different typefaces, rearranging pages.
-Learnt more about hyphenation setting, inserting, resizing, cropping images, high-quality display, object, text, frame options for a two-column grid, fill frame proportionally.
-We selected the adverts for the magazine and chose ones that were relevant such as plus size clothing adverts and where to place them, single or double pages.
-Had the same text sizes throughout the magazine.
-Designed pages, where to place adverts, quotes, interviews and articles, decided on margins and columns.
-Picked out magazine quotes from articles and interviews to be on a separate page dedicated to a quote in an italic font as well as researching other relevant quotes to use.
-Centred the name of who said the quote underneath it, inspired by Magnify magazine.
-Some pictures for articles that were not taken using a professional camera were coming out distorted so we decided to arrange another photo studio session to take more.
-We saved the PDF InDesign magazine file and visited the main printing shop again to ask about foil and style and how long in advance we would need to have copies printed out of the magazine.
4/5/17: (Supervision Session and Group Meeting)
-We were advised that the eye collage in our magazine should be turned around so the eyes are looking at the audience.
-This meant cropping out half the page so we made some last-minute changes.
-This included making the eye collage a double page spread for more impact which therefore meant we had to add more pages to be a multiple of four.
-We were advised to add in another double page spread advert and a page commenting on our advertising collaboratives.
-We wrote up a page about the chosen advertisements and the reason why we as editors, decided to work alongside the ethical co-operations which promote the same values as Miss Portrayed.
-After the final magazine changes were made, we discussed the exhibition such as getting the right dimensions for our display including the pictures, magazine page print outs and plinth.
-We visited the workshop and got dimensions for the plinth to be made.
-We contacted the printing shop to arrange a date to print the final magazine.
